Tellus Zine Issue 006:

Variety

Tellus Zine is a dynamic youth-led digital and print publication through Kennedy Heights Arts Center. Since its 2019 launch, the program has offered a powerful platform for young voices to share their creative work. With five print issues published and this newest digital one, Tellus Zine is curated by an all-youth editorial board. It features visual art, music, and writing from young adults aged 13-18 across Greater Cincinnati.

For our 6th issue, The Tellus Editorial Board has selected the theme Variety. We, as humans, have many differences and similarities. Explore the contrast, interactions, relationships, and analogies in your life through your art. Reflect on the variety of experiences, people, challenges, and identities.

Editorial Statement

Variety is the subtle changes from one glaze to another. The way you can brush it on a pot, or a plate, or a cup, experimenting and creating differences is the true essence of variety. We as people go through so many different experiences, struggles, hopes, and dreams. Sharing and promoting our different experiences is how we as people grow. The Tellus board chose this theme for the first part of our 6th issue in collaboration with Queen City Clay to highlight the variety in how ceramics can be expressed. We chose these pieces to fully encapsulate the idea of variety through this (mini) issue. In addition to our collaboration with Queen City Clay, we also opened the call to young artists in greater Cincinnati to share the varieties in their lives. From the bottom of the earth to the Pacific Ocean to the hills, we’re all just showcasing our experiences, and that variety is what makes us our own people.
