ISSUE 004.5: Girlhood(It’s Complicated)
EDITORIAL STATEMENT
The term “Girlhood“ spans a variety of experiences. What does it mean to you? From the festive cries of joy from one’s quinceañera to scoring the winning goal for the soccer team’s final game, these experiences come together in one’s search for identity.
This is the first time Tellus Zine is creating two zines in a year! For our first fall edition, we collaborated with the Cincinnati Museum Center to produce a zine inspired by their current exhibition, “Girlhood, (It’s Complicated)”. This exhibition encapsulates what girlhood means to many, spanning more than 200 years.
Taking inspiration from Zines, the exhibition features 5 overlapping categories of girlhood (News & Politics, Education, Work, Wellness, and Fashion) and brings to light the powerful impact women have had in history. On opening day, the Tellus Editorial Board visited the CMC and held a workshop in a classroom.
The Tellus Zine Editorial Board invited CMC visitors to create pieces of art in response to the exhibition. These works are featured in this zine, highlighting the diverse stories of “Girlhood”. The Editorial Board invites you to consider how different people experience girlhood.
