Child Like Wonder, Color Pencil

Mara Collins | 8th Grade | Camp Ernst Middle School

Whimsy, to me, is childlike wonder, pure happiness, and the innocence of youth. I incorporated colorful and extravagant displays to symbolize the creativity of a child's mind. I added an abundance of plant life to symbolize blooming of the imagination. I added animals such as a cat, fox, and owl as they represent magic and protection, which correlates to my piece as I displayed the magic of a child's mind, and the protection of it from the harmful outside world. I incorporated ideas from many impressionist paintings and artworks, as they inspired me when I was little.
